Inspiring non-profit Insulindependence recently launched a member search feature that allows users to search for other people with diabetes in their area with similar exercise interests (e.g., cyclists with diabetes in San Francisco). You can get more details and sign up here. An Insulindependence membership is free, though paying members get a slew of additional benefits, including product discounts, gear, quarterly newsletters, free educational events, and in the future, access to member forums and free race registrations. Insulindependence has also embarked on a mission to get members to log miles on Strava and Fitbit – we love this community-based approach to exercise!

For those not familiar with Insulindependence, the organization’s goal is to reduce the burden of diabetes through physical activity and peer support. The non-profit coordinates terrific events (Carlsbad and Philadelphia Marathons, Ragnar Relays, youth trips) and spreads education and best practices about diabetes and exercise. We had a lot of fun at Insulindependence’s North American Conference on Diabetes and Exercise, held last August. Click here to watch the sessions for free, which offer some outstanding content and expert thinking on all things diabetes with exercise. –AB
