JDRF and Beyond Type 1 are teaming up to support the type 1 community through education, programs, and advocacy

The recently announced “JDRF-Beyond Type 1 Alliance” will bring together two nonprofits to provide greater support for people with type 1 diabetes. The alliance will focus on:

  • Communications + Education – storytelling about type 1 diabetes research and developing resources that reflect the cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of the type 1 community (especially for adults).

  • Community Programs – promoting events and peer support to better connect the type 1 community.

  • Advocacy – creating a powerful and united voice to influence public policy.

JDRF has been a key leader in type 1 diabetes since 1970 and has invested generously in research, funding more than $2 billion in projects to date. Thanks to its meaningful contributions, there have been major advances in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and automated insulin delivery (AID) and increasing efforts to develop cures for type 1 diabetes. JDRF also brings a unique ability to touch people across the world with their strong influence and expertise in fundraising, advocacy, and type 1 diabetes research.

Beyond Type 1 was founded in 2015 and has already made impressive gains with two million followers across various social media platforms, social networks TuDiabetes and EsTuDiabetes, as well as a new Beyond Type 2 platform that launched in January. Beyond Type 1 will be an important partner to share stories and spread the word about type 1 diabetes research in new and creative ways.

By combining the strengths and expertise of each organization, this collaboration will hopefully drive progress toward improving the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes. We’ll be updating this article as new resources from the partnership become available.
