Your Donation Makes a Difference

Our patient publication for people with diabetes, diaTribe, was launched in 2006, and we recently became a non-profit in December 2012.  Since our Foundation is only partially funded by grants, we rely heavily on private philanthropists and our dedicated supporters to support our small but incredibly smart team of employees and volunteers.

Please read our reader testimonials to learn more about how The diaTribe  Foundation is making an impact. With your investment,  we hope to increase our advocacy work and make the world’s investments in diabetes care and research even more impactful.

“If you want to understand your diabetes and how to manage it, if you want to have in-depth conversations with your diabetes providers, if you take an ACTIVE role in managing your diabetes, then you NEED to read diaTribe!”

“I trust diaTribe. I know their staff is highly educated and very entrenched in the diabetes world. Their skilled team can comprehend very detailed information and know to ask the right questions. They have been around long enough to know how developments affect the big picture. I can't say enough about their mission to spread education and help advocate for better diabetes care. I love diaTribe!”

More Ways to Give

If you would like to speak to a member of our team about making a personal donation or giving through your foundation or donor-advised fund, please contact Alex Cameron ([email protected]), Senior Manager of Individual Giving. You can read about more ways to give below and Alex is happy to assist you with any of these options.  Thank you for considering making a contribution to The diaTribe Foundation!

Stock giving

Gifting appreciated stock or mutual funds is a simple and powerful way to support The diaTribe Foundation. You get an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of securities you have owned for more than one year—subject to the usual limitations—and capital gains taxes will be completely avoided on these assets.

Please contact your broker with the following information to electronically transfer a gift of stock to The diaTribe Foundation’s account:

  • Client name (The diaTribe Foundation)

  • The diaTribe Foundation’s federal tax ID number: 46-2431517

  • Schwab account number: 9503-2150

  • Delivery to: DTC Clearing 0164, Code 40

  • If you have a Schwab account, please contact Alex Cameron ([email protected]) for a form that you can use

Stock donations transferred to our account aren't accompanied by donor information. We want to be sure we can acknowledge your charitable donation of stock and send you a tax receipt, so please be in touch. We ask that you (or your broker) contact Alex Cameron ([email protected]), Senior Manager of Individual Giving, to let us know the kind of shares you are donating, the number of shares and the transfer date. As soon as your stock donation gift is identified, we’ll send you an acknowledgment, which you can use as a tax receipt.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a smart way to benefit The diaTribe Foundation and receive tax benefits in return. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) are distributions from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) made directly to a qualified nonprofit organization, without having the distribution counted as taxable income. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income taxes on the money. For married couples, each spouse can make QCDs up to the $100,000 limit for a potential total of $200,000.

This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD. Gifts from IRAs can be set up to be recurring distributions—so that each year you can receive the tax benefit and make an impact with your gift.

Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) are amounts that you must withdraw annually from your Traditional IRA, once you’re eligible. If you do not withdraw your RMD, you will face a penalty tax of 25% of the required withdrawal amount. QCDs can be used to meet this RMD requirement and avoid penalties. Read more about RMDs on the IRS website

Please contact Alex Cameron ([email protected]), Senior Manager of Individual Giving, if you would like more information about making a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA.

Workplace Giving and Matching Gifts

Many corporations will match their employee gifts to charitable organizations, effectively doubling or tripling your personal gift to The diaTribe Foundation. Ask your employer if they have a matching gifts program and if you need more information please contact Alex Cameron ([email protected]), Senior Manager of Individual Giving.

Many companies will also let you set up automatic, tax-deductible donations from your paycheck. It’s a no-fuss way to donate. Reach out to your employer’s Human Resources or Corporate Social Responsibility team to ask how you can sign up for donations through payroll deductions.
